Enhancements

Migration to Inventory V2 & support for new base-schema asset model

  • Discovery Agent is migrated to use Inventory V2 APIs for new discoveries. Discovered assets are created with the compliant IAH base schema, preventing invalid assets from being created by discovery. Asset Links that still provide asset data in the Inventory V1 asset model remain supported as the assets are being migrated to the compliant schema on the fly.
  • The Gateway Host Asset Link supports the new base-schema asset model.
  • The Default IP Scanner exposes the Connectivity Suite Device Info APIs to provide device identifiers and properties, ensuring the information conforms to the Inventory V2 asset model.

Support for Multi-VLAN Discovery

  • The Asset Gateway supports multi-VLAN discovery, allowing it to discover assets in remote VLANs without physically relocating the Asset Gateway host or attaching it to each target VLAN. See Multi-VLAN Discovery for host preparation, discovery options, and troubleshooting.
  • This feature is available only for the Docker Compose version of the Asset Gateway and requires at least Asset Gateway version 1.7.0.
  • Auth Proxy Agent synchronizes Asset Links installed or running on a gateway with Inventory. Inventory represents these states with the is_installed_on and is_running_on relations.
  • New discoveries create a found_by_asset_link relation for every asset that is found or found again. The relation points to the exact Asset Link asset that was created for the gateway.

Enhancements

Improvements for Default IP Scanner

  • Support for Passive Asset Discovery via Default IP Scanner. This allows the Asset Gateway to listen to network traffic and identify assets without actively scanning them.

Improvements for Default IP Scanner

  • Fixed an issue where scanning a single IP or very small IP range sometimes returned no results, even when devices were reachable.

  • Ensures that hostname of discovered devices are preserved and not removed during re-scanning.

Enhancements

  • The Asset Gateway sends a heartbeat to the backend to maintain reliable connection status. Versions earlier than 1.4.0 of the Asset Gateway remain compatible but do not support connection status, resulting in an "Unknown status" in the UI.
  • Asset gateway retrieves credentials from Credential management API and enables Asset links to use them. This requires Asset link versions, which support credential handling.

Compatibility

  • With Asset Gateway v1.4, the Default IP Scanner is available for deployment either as an Edge App or as a locally hosted Docker container, providing flexible integration options.

Enhancements

  • The Default IP scanner is included in the Asset Gateway. It will come as a pre-installed Asset link bundled with the Asset Gateway.
  • It will scan all the reachable devices in the network.
  • Currently, the Default IP scanner returns the IP address, MAC address, hostname and vendor of the devices scanned, with other attributes planned for future scope.

Enhancements

  • Remote access is supported via the Asset Gateway Application.

Boundary Conditions

  • Currently, only one remote connection per tenant is supported. Disconnect the existing remote connection before establishing a new remote connection.
  • If the Asset Gateway used to establish a remote connection is suddenly interrupted (e.g. powered off, network loss, etc.). while a remote connection is active, the "Delete API" must be manually executed to close the connection gracefully.
